Here is the story in my own words. Paul is heading to an uncertian fate in Jerusalem. (sound familiar-Jesus) He wants to train and encourage the people at Troas. He teaches and THEY listen until midnight. A young man seated in the window goes to sleep and falls out the third story window. He's dead. Paul pauses his teaching session, goes down and throws himself on the young man and brings him back to life. He goes back upstairs, breaks bread and teaches until daylight. Seriously, people were willing to lisiten to him for many hours, we don't even like hour church services, a young man falls asleep while he is teaching, falls out the window and dies, almost like a soap opera. Paul is unshaken, he heals the boy and continues teaching until morning. No distractions could keep Paul from sharing the news he needed to share. Life is so full of distractions. How many of your distractions keep you from sharing the good news?

The conference I attended last week about equipping people for service was awesome. For those of you who know me, you know that I do NOT like scary movies nor movies about the Devil because he is very real. However, this movie has gotten my attention. I am contemplating seeing it for a couple of reasons. First, in the trailer I viewed it states "One of them is not who they appear to be", second, I just want to see their interpretation of the Devil. Okay, so I know I take things way too serious sometimes, but seriously people, the Devil is not going to get us in an elevator. He gets us everyday. We are among people everyday who are not about the Father's business. They walk along side us and live in this "gray" area of Jesus. Are we doing anything to bring them closer to the Savior? The one who can bring light into the world.

"Stand up for me against world opinion, and I'll stand up for you before my Father in Heaven. If you turn tail and run, do you think I'll cover for you?" As I look over the names of the 104 different people who have served in Children's Ministry during my two year ministry here, I am very thankful. Some like to say it takes special people to work in Children's Ministry, I like to think it takes people who are listening to the Holy Spirits leading. Those people who are getting out of the boat. Jumping into making a lifelong impact in the life of a child. To me there is no greater blessing than seeing the face of a child as they learn about Jesus. After reading the first portion of Matthew, my mind has been stuck on the temptation of Jesus scriptures. What kind of communion with God did Jesus experience during those 40 days of fasting and prayer? When the "tempter" came to him, did Jesus recognize him or did he entertain the idea of eating for just a few seconds? How does the devil "take/lead" Jesus to the temple? Was "sin" pretty to Jesus until he realized the full extent of what Satan was asking Him to do? Surely it would have been exciting to Jesus to reach the highest point of the temple in his earthly body. Then the tempter takes him to a mountian where he can see the kingdoms of the world. Why would Jesus keep going with him? After the 3rd temptation it is then that Jesus commands, "Away from me, Satan!" Then angels attend Him. I am most definately going to do some more research on this passage. I am continually amazed at how scriptures come to life in different ways when you read them at different points in your life. He is so very good to us!

How often do we spend time following the Holy Spirit? I was able to hear one of my favorite speakers, Francis Chan. He shared with us a personal story about having to tell his daughter that he did not see evidence of the Holy Spirit in her life. Wow! Could I do that? Worse yet, what if someone said that to me? Somehow we as "Christians" have settled for not seeing evidence of the Holy Spirit in peoples lives. We go from day to day more surprised when we do see evidence of the Holy Spirit in someones life. I am convinced that the day is approaching when Jesus will return for His people. I ask that anyone who reads this blog to pray for me. Pray for the people of New Hope Christian Church. Pray for Washington, Indiana. So in my mind I have divided the bible into 3 categories: 1. God's blessings 2. Jesus' love for us and 3. Living with the Holy Spirit. When I think of the 1st, it troubles me to think those Isrealites were handed food and water, saw the parting of the Red Sea, the 10 plagues and so on and they were still filled with unbelief! Then Jesus comes along to save the world and they don't get it. They kill Him. Now we are left with the amazing gift of the Holy Spirit. It's wonderful and amazing. This VBS has so many God qualities. 1. Four Christian churches working together to share Jesus with the kids of Washington. Just like in the bible. Working together for one cause. 2. Bringing kids to an environment filled with adults who are eager to show them what this relationship with Jesus is all about. 3. Worship is awesome and 4. Of course my answer is going to be Satan's lies! He's full of them! When we aren't filling ourselves with God's word, we fall prey to his deceptions. I started with the New Testament. I wasn't sure if I would like it or not. Here is a clip from the back of the book: "The Bible is larger than life, and kids will love reading the stories told through the graphic storytelling of Korean manga. I was listening to a sermon today as I traveled to Bedford to visit my parents. The speaker was talking about the resurrection. How powerful God is and how some people just can't get past this "thing" of kneeling before a powerful being. This "thing" about taking up your cross, denying all else and following Him. As he described his relationship with Christ, I identified with what he was saying. The peace....The voice I hear giving me direction....It's not coincidence. HE is real. HE is in control.

He told a story about a man in New York that had been mugged. He was taken to an ATM and was forced to withdraw money. They stole everything including his laptop. As he later told what had happened to him and the opportunity he got to share a little bit of Jesus with one of the muggers, he said "I wish I could have shared Jesus more directly with all of them. I just hope they search through the files on my laptop. There's all kinds of spiritual stuff on it."

Question: If someone stole your belongings, would they see evidence of Christ?

Its hard to believe that May is here! How wonderful it is to join in prayer with church family for 24 hours and end with amazing God inspired worhsip!

Later, I began thinking about what a couple of men were saying. They noted the peace and calm they felt walking into the sanctuary during the very early hours of the morning. When it is calm. When there aren't any pressures. No phones ringing. No people wanting something. It's just easier to hear Him. To see Him. To just BE with Him.

That is my goal. As we were walking along I noticed a jelly fish. I told Mitchell to go get me something to catch it with, he gladly went in fear...lol As I approached it, I realized it was not longer alive. I was able to get it back to shore so the kids and I could examine it.

I have never seen a jelly fish up close. As I was looking at it, i realized how transparent it was. You can see right through to the core of what it is. Made me stop and think.....that is exactly how Jesus sees us. No clothing, no flesh, just the center of who we are. Is my center one that Jesus would proudly proclaim to our maker?

Search me, O God, and know my heart, test me and know my anxious thoughts. To submit and give up everything truly is radical and terrifying. However, when I think deeply about it, walking in my own wisdom, contrary to the Spirit's leading, is even more frightful. Though I struggle, I know that ultimately I want nothing more than to live in total surrender and abandonment to the Spirit every moment I have left on this earth. a few pages later..... when a person is habitually and actively submitted to the Spirit, what comes out of his or her life is the fruit of the Spirit. After realizing from a new friend that I hadn't blogged since late October, I decided to come back. In Sunday School, the kids learned about Jeremiah. The 2nd of the major prophets. How amazing it would have been to have God speak directly to you. Jeremiah 16:19 springs to my mind: O Lord, my strength and my fortress, my refuge in time of distress, to you the nations will come from the ends of the earth and say, Our fathers possessed nothing but false gods, worthless idols that did them no good. And at the end of the week, I was able to dean the overnighter for 2nd and 3rd graders. I love to see children praising Jesus together. Seeing children step out of their comfort zones as they try new things. I myself had to muster the courage to step off the platform of the zip line. Its like serving God. New Hope 1: Noah Frances, Evan Frances, Mary Barnard and Elizabeth Stallman. New Hope 2: Garrett Hess, Mitchell Guthrie, Haley Hagemeier, McKenzie Healy.

It's the most wonderful time of the year.....Oh you might be thinking about Christmas, but I am thinking about summer camp at Camp Illiana. How wonderful it was to see children from 3 years of age to High School using their talents for the Lord last night. The Chili skit was wonderful, the preschoolers did a great job singing "Fishers of men" (how can you NOT smile when you think of those little ones?), and the elementary kids did a terrific job with the musical. How often do we celebrate that good news with our children? I tried to let the New Hope kids let me tell their parents to just hide empty eggs representing the empty tomb, but they booed my off the stage! haha.
